Russian River Utility provides both water treatment and distribution services, and also provides normal maintenance, monitoring, and preparation of reports for State and County requirements. Over 2,900 meters are read for 22 water systems, and bills are processed for 12 of those systems. RRU owns one private water system. The water rates for the one private system that RRU owns (Sereno del Mar) are overseen by the California Public Utilities Commission.

The operation staff is available on 24-hour notice. Emergency alarms are received via a personal cell phone activated by both the SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) system and by the answering service.
